Dental sealants are made of a plastic material that is most commonly applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. The material bonds to the enamel and hardens and creates a barrier between food, plaque, etc. and the deep grooves of the teeth. Sealant application is a quick, effective method to prevent the development of cavities.
Typically, children are great candidates for sealants because we want to stop the likelihood of decay early in life. However, adults can get sealants, too! Ask us about sealants at your next dental visit.
